Why Paint Digitally

6/27/19

I know longer remember where I heard it. Maybe it was in Dyson Freemon’s “Disturbing The Universe.” Don’t know. But, it goes something like this. What ever we event we are going to use. Certainly true of AI. It will evolve faster than our minds and our capacity to control it. Maybe the quote should be - whatever we invent, wewill never be able to control.

Regardless of my love of the impressionist, we are no longer limited to transient atmospheric lighting. Light no longer bounces off the surface of a canvas. Light moves from within and around the digital frame. Maybe art did end with Andy Warhol. Sometimes I wonder. Still I experiment and I try to create in the newness of pixel paint. Maybe humans will become obsolete. I hope not. I hope we can hold on as tenaciously as insects on involving world. I paint digital because I love it. There is only so many ways to apply paint. Digital painting makes me feel like my boy Eohraim in my painting. There is so much to discover. Robots don’t paint my pictures. I do. I have no desire to cede to them the fun and let them share in the excitement of creation. I suppose there could come a time when they out dream us. Perhaps their will be a new normal. No AI here. Just study, endless practice, technicque,, style, and a little bit of soul and luck, My advance into the future is leaving my oils and acrylics behind.
